The Secretary of the Navy takes pleasure in presenting the NAVY COMMENDATION MEDAL to

for service as set forth in the following CITATION:

"For meritorious achievement while serving as a Radio Operator with Company L, Third Battalion, Twenty-Seventh Marines, First Marine Division in connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam from 18 to 27 May 1968. On 18 may during Operation Allen Brook, Company L was heavily engaged with an enemy force entrenched in fortified positions and sustained heavy casualties. For approximately five hours during intense heat of the day, Corporal RAIBLE moved from one position to another with the executive officer and displayed exceptional composure under fire as he maintained reliable communications and assisted in the evacuation of casualties. As a result of the oppressive tropical heat and the weight of his radio, he became a heat casualty. Realizing his unit was short of radio operators, he refused medical evacuation and remained in the field to provide reliable communications for his unit, despite sickness and recurring dizzy spells. While standing watch on the night of 27 May 1968, Corporal RAIBLE was severely wounded by mortar fragments and was medically evacuated. By his courage, unfaltering determination and steadfast devotion to duty throughout, Corporal RAIBLE inspired all who observed him and upheld the finest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service. "

Corporal RAIBLE is authorized to wear the Combat "V".
