The Secretary of the Navy takes pleasure in presenting the NAVY COMMENDATION MEDAL to

for service as set forth in the following CITATION:

"For heroic achievement while serving as a Field Operator with the Tactical Air Control Party, Third Battalion, Twenty-Seventh Marines, First Marine Division in connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. On 18 May 1968 during Operation Allen Brook, the lead elements of two companies from the Third Battalion sustained heavy casualties and were pinned down by an enemy force entrenched in fortified positions. Realizing the critical situation, Sergeant HIGHT voluntarily left his relatively safe position with the command group to aid the casualties. With complete disregard for his own safety, he fearlessly ran across the fire-swept area with a medical kit and moved from one casualty to another, using his own body to shield his comrades as he administered first aid treatment. Working with seemingly tireless energy for almost two hours, Sergeant HIGHT expended an entire medical kit and twice rendered mouth-to-mouth resuscitation before he collapsed from heat exhaustion. After being revived, he steadfastly returned to the hazardous area and continued to aid his fellow Marines. By his courage, bold initiative and selfless devotion to duty in the face of intense enemy fire, Sergeant HIGHT inspired all who observed him and upheld the finest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service. "

Sergeant HIGHT is authorized to wear the Combat "V".
